My boyfriend is a big fan of sushi. For his birthday, I scoured the internet to find the perfect place. Kanpai kept coming up but because it wasn’t near anywhere else I was planning to take him for his birthday we didn’t go. It stayed in my mind so the next time we decided to get sushi, I suggested we try Kanpai.

Yelp has so many great reviews of this tiny place and its chef, Sean Park. Kanpai is located in a strip mall in Mt. Pleasant, not where you would expect to find amazing sushi. The decor is simple and they weren’t serving any alcohol that night. Not sure if it is always BYOB or if they were having issues that evening.

Regardless, the food was amazing. We ordered the sushi platter for two and there was a lot of sushi. The sweet woman serving us knew what all the fish were and went over each one with us before we ate. The fish was fresh and tasty. We definitely were full at the end of the meal which normally doesn’t happen when eating sushi, at least for me.

I would highly recommend Kanpai and we definitely will be returning.
