I grew up in Los Angeles, California which I feel means Mexican is one of my favorite foods by default. You could go anywhere in Southern California and get some of the greatest Mexican food. Having lived in the south for a variety of years, I have learned that not all are as lucky as I was to have such great access to this amazing cuisine. Additionally, Tex Mex and Baja styles are two very different types of Mexican food.

Since moving to Charleston, I have been on a quest to find a good place to go to. Santi came highly recommended and I’ll be honest, it gives me some hope I might be able to get some good food that reminds me of home on occasion.

Santi doesn’t look like much from the street but upon walking up there is an adorable patio and an eclectic dining room that give a lot of flair.

The chips are thick and the salsa was pretty standard. We ordered queso and that was fantastic.

I ordered the red sauce enchiladas which ended up being pretty fantastic. They aren’t your typical smothered in red sauce and cheese enchiladas, they were filled with chicken, sprinkled with cheese and had a good amount of sauce; not one flavor over powering the other. It was a huge plate of delicious food. Accompanied by a mojito on their patio and a taste of a fall breeze and I’d say it was a perfect evening.

This So Cal girl gives Santi a thumbs up but it doesn’t end my trek to find the best authentic Mexican place in Charleston.
